December:

So funny how my plants are exploring my room. It seems that they like it somehow, or maybe they are trying to escape. Who knows, but they look quite content in their
self-chosen path.

Finished my automated 8 channel audio patch in pure data 0.53 (with the external Else library). This I will use for the backgroundsounds for my radioplay. The voices I will fill in manually, to be able to be more precise and because they are not moving around so wildly (since that sounds too unnatural in my experience).

Click to watch a video of the result so far on bitchute (7 min 17):

8 channel patch

In the first patch with the audiometers I have made a fully automated version, random numbers are switching random speakers at random moments on and off. Although you see 16 channels, there are actually 8. The extra 8 channels are virtual ones, these I use in the 2nd patch. I am splitting a stereo file in 2, adding to channel 2 a reverb varying from 0 to 90 and back, with random stops with different lengths in between. This makes the signal more spatial.

In the 2nd automation patch, the order and combination of speakers is determined, whereas the timing is constantly changing. I have made 12 presets, differing from 1 at a time, 2 at a time, 3 at a time, and 4 at a time. 10 presets are randomly timed, and 2 of them have an accelerator, varying from 1000 milliseconds to 100 milliseconds and back, with time-delays in between. This means that the route stays the same, but that the timing is constantly speeding up, or slowing down (between 100 ms and 1000 ms).

In the 2nd patch I am using the extra (virtual) 8 channels (I mentioned already) with a time-delay, this is actually the 2nd mono-signal, following the first mono-signal via the same route of speakers, with a time delay of 700 milliseconds, to prevent that all speakers are too many times in the same moment silent. So each speaker receives the 2 mono-signals directly after each other. This makes the presets a little bit more unexpected as well, because of fading out times, and delay times. This I have done on purpose, to make it more dynamically, not too predictable.

A random counter switches between the different presets, and disconnects the random timer when one of the accelerators are activated. By recording directly to the harddisc, an 8-channel soundfile is generated, with a smooth fade in and fade out of 2 seconds at the beginning and end of the file, and of course all the sound-fragments have fade ins and outs as well, albeit with different lengths. Of course the minimum and maximum timings (the range of the random generators) can always be adjusted.

In addition this patch can be played live as well (for instance with a midi-controller). It is so great to play around with this stuff and I am proud that I managed to program this on my own, without any help and that it works exactly as I wish, without errors or stack overflows, and in my own logic.

Took a long weekend off, cycled through the area I am living in: to Venhuizen, to Schoorl, to Heemskerk and finally Wijk aan Zee.
I performed in the meantime a succesful experiment with my self-baked wonderful sourdough bread. I found out that it could survive
perfectly in holiday circumstances, being alive with its sourdough culture. In daytime it could bake off in my 30 degrees Celcius oven tent,
(or at the back of my bicycle) and during nighttime it was capable of absorbing moisture and even rise. No fungus, or dried out signs, nothing,
it kept its excellent taste, smell and look.

The ingredients are: Rye, flaxseed, coriander, cia seed, hempseed, dandelian root, fennel seed and milk thistle seed and (filtered) water of course.
A noise-power bread that kept me cycling whole day long. Soon I wil make a video how to make this bread.

Downloaded a trial of a software synth developed by Tracktion, called Novum, to experiment with more layers
of background sounds for my radioplays. To make the sounds more diverse (to use less reverb), and to prepare them
for use in a live setting, later. A lot to discover, and maybe I will even install later some extra plugins. But first I have
to understand how this all works and find my way in it. Exciting stuff!

Translation:
Beach Piece

While life withdrew
and disappeared
incognito
in the breakers

death meanwhile
wearing already
his foamy white hat
had long since noticed,

struck
with big shiny curls
rakishly
along
the upturned water
Euphoric bad luck

Fatal luck
means for her
something like
at the very last
moment

accidentally
to be stranded
under
that long-awaited
awkwardly
landed
UFO
Strategic switching moment

By unexpectedly
accelerating
time gets life,

but only on
slowing
down,
death
pissed-off
Performance without an audience

The stainless steel flowers
fill the courtyard
with a tinny
tinkling,

when a stray
gust of wind
flows in
through
the open gate

What is what it seems, turns out not to be

The question mark
turned out
to already know
all the answers

disguises itself
as an exclamation mark,
to loudly confirm that

the exclamation mark
in turn,
was not so sure
anymore,

transforms
into a silent,
interrogative form

Although the sounds of this release are old, the editing is brandnew. For no reason I never took the effort to make a realease of the Rauschmaschiene (Sound-Quaker),
although it's my favorite instrument. Unfortunately it doesn't exist any more, but here are its beautiful sounds again, 10 years later.

With many thanks to Francisco Lopez for designing such a major overview of the international and wonderful best scene of all: the soundartscene.

I am selected with my piece called Noise-Ocean, I made in 2014, during an artist-in-residence in Scheveningen (Badgast).
For this composition I used an underwatermicrophone for sounds of the sea and the local harbour. You are hearing this mic being swept by the waves over the sand, and receiving shortwave radiostations of sailing boats in the harbour, their motors while making manoeuvres and even flushing their toilets. Furthermore I added daily sounds of the village for this soundtrack.
